Sample discovery for every DAW, a supercharged step sequencer, and scanning on your terms
Vibseek Studio is expanding beyond Ableton Live with sample discovery for every DAW, a redesigned step sequencer, Search by Sound for everyone, and full control over which folders Vibseek Studio scans.
- On first launch, Vibseek Studio asks you to select all the DAWs you use, and you can change your selection later in Settings. The sample map, Search by Sound, preview, and dragging audio or MIDI are available with every selection. Projects and Activity remain exclusive to Ableton Live
- Nothing on your disk gets scanned until you say yes. The folders Studio finds are shown as a folded tree, name first, and you switch on the ones you want
- The samples your Ableton sets use are their own group now, sorted by which set they come from. Switch a group on and those sounds join the map and search, wherever they live on disk
- Search by Sound works for everyone. Drop a sound into the search field and the map shows you what sounds like it. It used to be early access
- Scrubbing: click anywhere in a sample's waveform to hear it from that point. A line follows the pointer to show where it will start
- Customizable panel shortcut. The fixed Option+Space clashed with Ableton's playback shortcuts, so you can now set your own key, or switch the shortcut off
- Settings opens from the menu bar
- After an update the panel greets you once, naming the version you got with a link to what changed
- A Changelog link in Settings opens the release notes
- A sample folder that has gone missing says so instead of going quiet, and Locate points Studio at where you moved it
Per-step sequencer
- A sound lands in the sequencer with its first step already on, so it plays the moment you open it
- Every step gets its own velocity, on the 0 to 127 scale your DAW speaks
- Per-step effects: distortion with a choice of amp, reverb, and a filter that sweeps from low-pass to high-pass
- Copy MIDI sends a pattern to any DAW
- The dice can randomize any single lane, and each lane's Clear and RND say which lane they act on
- Delete clears the knob you have focused
Inner Circle (early access)
- The sketchboard has a live output meter
- The manual timing-offset slider for Live sync is clearer. People read sliding it to the top as turning sync on or maxing it out, but it is an occasional fix, not a level. Sync with Live is more reliable under the hood now, so most setups no longer need the offset, and after this update Studio asks whether to keep or reset one you had set
- Opening a folder keeps the current map on screen under a progress card while the new one loads, instead of flashing black, and it gets there faster. A big-library drill that took 5 to 8 seconds now settles in about two
- The map reopens exactly where you left it, in one paint, instead of framing the whole library and then jumping to your last view
- A one-time library upgrade that takes a while now shows a progress window with a time estimate, instead of looking like the app has hung
- A sample plays at the same loudness wherever you trigger it. The preview used to be quieter than a sketchboard lane
- Settings is a sidebar grouped into Library, Organize, App and Advanced, instead of fourteen tabs in a block
- One click on a sidebar's edge grip opens or shuts it, and the preview panel's grip answers a click the same way
- The Similar button is a toggle now. Press it again to leave, and a label on the map names the sound you are comparing against
- Sounds on a disconnected drive are labelled in the sidebar list, so a half-empty map has a reason on the page
- Empty states say what is actually happening instead of promising a map that never comes
- One-shots waited for the beat before sounding while Ableton Link was running. They play the moment you touch them
- A map served from cache could show sounds that were no longer in your library, and hovering them did nothing, with no reason given. The map now tells you the sound is gone and refreshes itself
- Studio drifted off Live's grid after a tempo change or a sound swap
- The tempo-stretch latency setting had stopped reaching the audio
- A tempo-stretched loop clipped the end of the sound just before wrapping around. The tail now plays through the loop point
- One unreadable sample could stop the whole map from drawing, permanently, with no way back. A bad sound now costs one dot
- On a new library the preview could say "No neighbours yet" for the rest of the session, even after indexing had finished
- The orb could disappear while the app was still running, and relaunching did nothing
- The orb could stay hidden after a render finished, failed, or was cancelled
- Pinch-to-zoom on the map did nothing when the panel had been opened with the keyboard shortcut
- Dragging a sample to your DAW no longer keeps it playing
- Quick Saves could not save a sound the map had not placed yet
- Reveal in Finder did nothing when the file had been moved or deleted
Inner Circle (early access)
- A loop swapped into a playing sketchboard clip briefly ran at the wrong tempo before snapping into time
- A sketchboard clip whose drive is unplugged stops instead of retrying
